A VIOLET FIRE
by Kelsey Quick

\”A vampire tale with a heady mix of defiance and doubt, rebellion and romance.\” — Kirkus Reviews

\”There is not a single dull moment in this book… A Violet Fire has all the ingredients to become the next Hollywood movie about vampires.\” — Readers\’ Favorite

In the Vampire Stratocracy of Cain, human blood is scarce. For centuries, councils have sought to assuage the blood shortage by enslaving and breeding humans, turning them into profitable supply units for the rich and the abled.

Today, eighteen-year-old Wavorly Sterling is officially a supply unit, bound to serve her blood willingly to her master for the rest of her life. One of only few humans that was not bred in Cain, Wavorly knows freedom better than anyone, and she is determined to escape the clutches of her oppressors—despite the allure of forbidden love.\”

EXCERPT
The weight of their presence grows heavier, bringing with it the animosity of a plague; a terror that I take all the way down to the marrow of my bones; a seeping cold that is bristled with thousands of tiny needle-head points, sending fire along my spent arms and shoulders. It blasts its way down into my soul, threatening to obliterate every ounce of resolve that has landed me here, along these steadfast bricks, amidst my escape from the Stratocracy of Cain—amidst my escape from the vampires.

AN INTERVIEW WITH KELSEY
-What inspired you to become a writer?

I was inspired to write by fanfiction. I had grown up loving art and comic book writing more than anything, and that was the persona that I had given myself. It never occurred to me that I could be both an artist and a writer. Once I had written a couple of chapters of fanfiction that was highly praised, I wondered if I could do this big time. I had an idea that I’d been sitting on since high school, and without it, I probably never would have written anything outside of fanfic.

-If you could visit your book’s world for a day, what one thing would you do?

Probably hide. Hiding sounds very good for this type of novel, haha! It’s not like I could just find a vampire to bite me and turn me into a fun creature of the night. In A Violet Fire, vampires are their own species, and biting humans results in a zombie-like transformation. It’s not exactly fun to get bitten in this world. Thus, I would hide!

-It’s two in the morning. What does your protagonist reveal in confidence? (Don’t worry, we won’t tell.)

She reveals that she may have been wrong about vampires… maybe she could find herself selfless enough to help one, if one were in need… and if that one went by the name Lord Anton Zein.

-Which of your characters would you go out for drinks with?

DEFINITELY GEMINI. He’s such a fun character for a vampire and I think his verbose and borderline silly personality makes him unique amongst his rather sullen comrades.

-You’re in a tavern, and a dwarf challenges you to a duel. What do you do?

What a great question. I’d like to say that I would accept his challenge and hold my own against a creature that most likely has combat skills that far exceed my own… but given the probability of my failure and the imminent ruining of my tranquil night of drinking, I would probably decline.

-Is there a genre you could never write? Which and why?

I could never write nonfiction. I’m not a fan of research and I do the bare minimum when I’m required to for fiction. Although I can appreciate the genre, and even read it, I would rather give up writing than write it.

  1. Congrats on this tour and thank for the opportunity to read about another great book out there to read. It helps out so I can find books I know my family will enjoy reading. Thanks as well for the giveaway.

  2. Hi everyone! Happy Friday! Thank you Kit n Kabookle for hosting and thanks all of you for paying a visit! I’ve been going through wedding rehearsals and driving all day today, so it’s been a bit busy to say the least. I’m here to answer any questions!

  3. Gemini is definitely the best! I probably would never write about dwarves. I have no idea why, I just like my fantasy a little less traditional fantasy. And no I haven’t! Have you?
