The Rose

A science fiction by P.D. Alleva

A masterful, dystopian science fiction thriller of underground genetic experiments, telepathic evil greys, mysterious rebellion, conspiracy, martial arts, and Alien Vampires.

Sandy Cox believed WW3 was over. But for those Alien Vampires, War Has Just Begun.

Forty-eight hours after a World War III treaty is signed Sandy Cox awakens in an underground compound unable to move. Tied to machines she screams for help but no one answers. At least NO ONE HUMAN.

And they’ve taken her unborn child.

Enter Phil, a rebel freedom fighter who has had more than his share of Alien Vampires. Armed with THE BLADES, a sacred alien martial art, he enters the compound on a mission to find Sandy. But as he battles his way through the compound, Phil discovers Sandy has her own agenda. Finding her stolen child is all that matters.

But the vampires have their own plan and Sandy’s baby is at the heart of their diabolical plot. Joined by a crew of rogue soldiers, they must navigate the underground compound, battling genetically mutated humans, aliens and monsters.

When battling Alien Vampires, one thing is certain…Get Ready To Bleed!

Fans of The Hunger Games, George RR Martin, VE Schwab, Star Wars and Ancient Aliens will be fascinated by this high-powered, intelligent, edge of your seat dystopian sci-fi action thriller.

Excerpt

Dr. Blum escorted an alien vampire, a Drac, down the pristine hallway. This Drac was tall, standing well above six feet. He wore thick black armor that shined under the light, covering his torso, neck to navel, all the way down his arms, locked at the wrists. Standard armor for Drac soldiers. His skin was pale, at least as pale as a scaly brownish auburn flesh could allow. His skull was smooth and large, and his neck bones stood on his shoulders protruding from the skin and skull like two thick stints up to the top of his head. The bones swelled then retracted, in unison with his breathing. The skin beneath his eyes was a pale red circling dry yellowish eyeballs with emerald pupils. His fingers were long and thick with sharp nails. Part of the Drac species, he wore his people\’s badge of honor proud on his sleeve.

“He’s the first to receive the new pills,” Dr. Blum explained. “He’s still coherent though, seems his strength and adrenaline are fighting off the effects, but at least he’s calm. Shock to the system if you know what I mean, Sanos?”

“Indeed,” replied Sanos, his voice a thick and heavy baritone. “He’s had all the necessary tests completed?”

“Of course,” Dr. Blum replied.

“Good…I’m starved.”

Dr. Blum bowed. “Of course.”

They stopped in front of the door leading to Ben’s chamber.

“This is it,” said Dr. Blum, sliding a panel from the small window. He looked inside seeing Ben sitting on the floor, his back against the wall. Ben’s pupils circled beneath half closed eyelids. His body jerked. The back of his head smacked against the wall. “Hmm, see, much more calm.”

“Delightful,” breathed Sanos. “May I?”

“Naturally.”

Sanos commanded perfection in his food. His eyes widened, delighted in observing Ben.

  1. Thank you for hosting and good morning fellow readers and book lovers, thank you for stopping by today. Enjoy the excerpt with the introduction of Sanos, the main alien vampire in The Rose and good luck on the giveaway. I'll be stopping in throughout the day to answer questions and reply to comments so feel free to ask any questions you may have. As always, happy Thursday, be safe and healthy, PD Alleva

  2. Curious, are there any fiction books that you have read that truly left you afraid after reading it? If so, what was it that you read?

  3. Hi Jeffrey. I wouldn't say exactly that these books have left me truly afraid – I've been desensitized for a long while – but to answer your question the fiction books that have left such an impact have been The Exorcist, Pet Semetary, and Clive Barker's The Damnation Game, although Clive Barker's Coldheart Canyon is the only book where a character made it into my dreams, but to be honest, the book was not that scary (but I do love Coldheart Canyon). Hope that answers your question, thank you Jeffrey

  4. Great question. I've come to notice that any writers block I experience is usually because the story took off in an unexpected direction and I need to process where the new direction is headed, or some part of what I wrote over the last few days doesn't sit right with me and I need to either rewrite it or change it up a bit. During this process I'll take long walks, meditate, and indulge in some distraction by way of reading or watching some old movies. Usually the answer comes within a day or two. I find it important not to allow the story to wait more than a day before getting back into the creative groove. Thank you Jeffrey, glad you stopped by.

  5. If you could meet a well known writer from the past, which writer would that be, what kinds of questions would you ask that writer, and why would you want to meet that particular author?

  6. Great question. There's so many writers I'd want to meet but at the moment I'd choose Edgar Allan Poe. I'd like to pick his mind for a while about his philosophy on life and death, life in general, and the dark side of the human condition. I'd love to assess his cognition and belief system/philosophy on these subjects. I would also love to be a fly on the wall during the last few days of his life to see what really happened and how he passed away (which I've read was due to alcohol withdrawals). Hope that answers your question. Thank you Jeffrey.

  7. I am familiar with that book, the movie too Lifeforce. Although that particular story did not have a profound effect or influence on The Rose. There was a television show in the late 70's, Buck Rogers, that featured an alien vampire in one of the episodes which played a large influence on the concept of an alien vampire, although my vampires are very different. Thank you Jeffrey.

  8. When I person meets someone for the 1st time, it is said that we're left with an impression of that new person. When someone meets you for the 1st time, what is the impression of you that you'd want that person to have.

  9. I wear shorts and a t-shirt just about everyday, even on days when I see patients (I'm also a hypnotist specializing in trauma and addiction), so no I don't agree. If my patients judged me by my clothes they'd never get the help they need. Fact!

  10. I'd make sure all my future novels were outlined and planned out so one of my four kids will be able to write them once I'm gone. I'd write a little more in whatever book I was writing and then spend the rest of the day with the fam.

  11. That's a loaded question, however, I'll keep it short: Poe, Lovecraft, Bradbury, King, Clive Barker, I even enjoy Ernest Hemingway and reading TS Elliot and Walt Whitman. Lately a few of the authors who have taken my attention are: JD Barker, Blake Crouch, VE Schwab, and John Connolly. Thank you Jeffrey, Happy New Year to you.

  12. ALFRED NOBEL WAS THE INVENTOR OF DYNAMITE. WHILE STILL ALIVE, A NEWSPAPER MISTAKENLY PUBLISHED HIS OBITUARY, IN WHICH IT SAID THAT HE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR MORE PEOPLE BEING KILLED THEN ANYONE ELSE IN HISTORY DUE TO HIS INVENTION.NOBEL WAS SO SHOCKED OVER THIS OBITUARY, THAT HE CHANGED HIS LIFE AND STARTED THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE.WHAT WOULD YOU WANT YOUR OBITUARY TO SAY ABOUT YOU?P.S.: I HOPE THAT YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES HAVE A HAPPY,HEALTHY,AND SAFE NEW YEAR.

  13. I ONCE READ THE FOLLOWING JOKE: JOE DIES AND MEETS ST. PETER AT THE PEARLY GATES. ST. PETER TELLS JOE THAT HE WILL BE GIVEN A TOUR OF HELL AND THEN A TOUR OF HEAVEN.IN HELL, JOE SEES PEOPLE BEING TORTURED IN THE MOST HORRIBLE WAYS POSSIBLE.ST. PETER THEN TAKES JOE TO HEAVEN. IN HEAVEN, JOE SEES PEOPLE BEING TORTURED IN THE MOST HORRIBLE WAYS POSSIBLE.JOE SAYS TO ST. PETER,\”I DON'T UNDERSTAND. I SEE THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENING TO PEOPLE IN BOTH HEAVEN AND IN HELL. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO PLACES?\”ST. PETER LOOKS AT JOE AND SAYS, \”IN HEAVEN AUTHORS GET PUBLISHED.\”WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS JOKE?

  15. Kind of takes from the spiritual philosophy that life is suffering, but for a writer that suffering is worth it when we get published. So true too. Plus it got a chuckle out of me. Hey Jeffrey, its been great conversing with you. Thank you for your support, its truly appreciated. Grateful for your questions, PD
