Interview with Brian Baleno, author of new release Insignificant Ones
-What inspired you to become a writer?
I have always enjoyed hearing people share their stories and writing is a way for me to both share and create stories. Writing both fiction and non-fiction allows me to create my own stories (fiction) and tell other people’s stories (non-fiction).
-If you could visit your book’s world for a day, what one thing would you do?
I would jump in during the Beach Bound chapter. I love road trips and the beach and that chapter combines the two so I would love to spend a day joining Matty and Eddie on their along the Florida east coast.
-It’s two in the morning. What does your protagonist reveal in confidence? (Don’t worry, we won’t tell.)
The conversation would occur between two characters where one would reveal to the other, “Don’t worry. I didn’t do it.”
-Which of your characters would you go out for drinks with?
That’s a difficult question because there are different characters I would enjoy going out for a drink with. If I wanted to have a nice laugh, I would pick Eddie because he is laugh out loud funny. Eddie’s character is a composite of a close friend of mine.
-You’re in a tavern, and a dwarf challenges you to a duel. What do you do?
Well, I would not want to enter any physical duel with anyone. Because we are in a tavern, I would shift the challenge to a drinking duel so that the two of us could have an enjoyable time.
-Is there a genre you could never write? Which and why?
I do not think I could write a horror novel. I tend to be more optimistic by nature preferring lighter topics so I imagine writing something dark, graphic, and violent would be particularly challenging for me.

About Brian
I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I grew up in a large family which includes my four brothers and two sisters. Our parents emphasized the importance of family while also teaching us lifelong lessons that centered on work ethic, humility, generosity, and caring for others. I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1996 with a degree in chemical engineering but like most other college students I had no clue about what I wanted to be when I grew up. Some days I dreamed about working on Wall Street while on other days I thought about becoming a writer. Directionless, I started writing in college and that passion has continued some twenty plus years later. My first book, a fictional novel called + One, was published in 2012. Since then, I have written several non-fiction books including Fifty Halfs from First to Last and Generational Lessons from Dad. This year I released my second fictional novel, Insignificant Ones. I currently live in Milton, Georgia with my wife Irene and my two sons.
