THE SEA ARCHER
by Jeny Heckman

Raven Hunter, a musical prodigy, flees to the Hawaiian Islands to pick up the pieces after her marriage to her manager collapses. Instead, she experiences extraordinary and unsettling events that are beyond her understanding.

Living in paradise, marine biologist, Finn Taylor has the unconscious but effortless ability to understand the needs of the animals he cares for. His playboy lifestyle is most men\’s fantasy. That is, until the night he meets the shy and elusive new island resident. Suddenly his life no longer feels like his own.

The attraction is undeniable. However, vastly contrasting lives, peculiar dreams, and an unbelievable proclamation that they could be the direct descendants of Poseidon and Apollo threaten to divide them forever. Will they accept their destiny and begin the quest of a lifetime or will they remain in their comfortable yet separate existence?

EXCERPT
“Finn, I understand it sounds crazy, really. I knew nothing about Greek mythology or who any of these people were until she told them to me.”

“And now you think Poseidon… I’m assuming you think I’m some offshoot of Poseidon, right?”

“You have a trident on your back.”

“Because I thought it was cool when I was twenty-years-old.”

“And you’ve never felt anything strange that you can’t explain?”

“And Raven,” he continued, unwilling to entertain those thoughts. “Who I just met, is Apollo? You realize, Apollo was a dude, the boy half of the twins, right?”

“God of music.”

“Jesus!”

AN INTERVIEW WITH JENY
-What inspired you to become a writer?

Well, I love stories and storytelling and remember from an early age reading, Harold, and the Purple Crayon. It was a big deal when I received the complete set of The Little House on the Prairie books. I remember figuring out adolescents with Are You There God it\’s Me Margaret. My mom instilled a love of reading and my grandmother instilled my love of storytelling. Her parents came from Sweden and my grandfather was the youngest of eighteen children, so the stories were literally endless! I supposed inspiration for stories is in my blood. However, actually writing any stories down didn\’t come until much later. This may sound strange but I didn\’t feel very empowered or inspired to write until I read about empowered and inspiring heroines. I was as clueless as Raven, until I realized I didn’t have to be.

-If you could visit your book’s world for a day, what one thing would you do?

Spoiler Alert: Without a doubt, I would\’ve been in that room when Themis showed herself. It would’ve been so cool, to witness an old woman turn into her vibrant younger self, not to mention the apparition of Themis, her proclamations, and her voice. I think to experience anything supernatural would be pretty amazing and awesome.

-It’s two in the morning. What does your protagonist reveal in confidence?

At two in the morning I think Raven would probably need to be drunk but I bet she would reveal more about her talent. Where it comes from and her connection to it. The gift is pretty deep seeded and her subconscious mind has to have some thoughts on where it all originates. I mean how many people could sit down at a piano and just start playing? I think Raven, yearns to be accepted for herself. So, I think she\’d be willing to put more of herself out there at two am, especially with a “Jeny pour” of Malbec in hand.

-Which of your characters would you go out for drinks with?

If I could go out for a drink with one character from The Sea Archer it would probably be with Wyatt Hunter, Raven’s twin. I really like him. He’s funny, loyal, caring and a survivalist. Could you just imagine the stories he’d have to tell? Not to mention, he’s hot and single!

-You’re in a tavern, and a dwarf challenges you to a duel. What do you do?

This is a hysterical question! Well, I guess I’d want to know what his beef was. Are we dueling to the death or just over who gets a triple grande nonfat caramel macchiato with extra caramel drizzle? Actually, those two are pretty much the same thing, aren\’t they and both fighting words. I’ve watched, Game of Thrones, I know there’s a huge warrior inside the small stature of Tyrion Lannister. So, I think I’d try to talk my way out of it because clearly I’m a lover writer, not a fighter.

-Is there a genre you could never write? Which and why?

The one genre I don’t think I’ll ever write is horror. I\’m not too big on being terrified and have only contemplated horror movie through my interlaced fingers. In fact, my husband and I recently watched, Overlord. I didn\’t understand what the plot was going into it. So, I’m sitting there concentrating on this movie thinking it’s about the paratroopers of WWII, when all hell breaks loose. I don’t like violence for violence sake, so I\’m guessing I probably wouldn\’t do the genre justice.

This was a hoot! Thank you so much for joining me here today, I really had a fantastic time! I\’d like to thank Kit ‘N Kabookle too for hosting me as well, and as Robin Williams once said, you\’re a can of corn! I hope you all find The Sea Archer in your hands and that you enjoy it. Cheers!
