And so, I am reborn.
Okay, not literally, but this week definitely feels like my life has shifted.
When I pitched my Role-Playing Games for Professional Development webinar to the Editorial Freelancers Association back in January, I figured it would be something I did in conjunction with getting a bunch of other stuff done.
What it became was the catalyst to overhaul my website, fix my newsletter, and really pivot my entire business model/approach.
It also resulted in being nudged to pitch a similar session for the EFA convention, which I did and had a blast presenting.
And so, when I finally taught the original webinar last week, the minute it was over, it was like a rope snapped. This thing that had essentially triggered a takeover of my life for more than half a year was done. I did it. I taught the class, did all the things behind the scenes to make the class match my new brand, and finally felt like I was actually moving forward after stalling out at the end of 2025 when a previous gig dried up.
Thus, now, things feel new.
It is amazing the free time that crops up after you finish a big project. More, though, it’s amazing how it frees up your brain to do other things. I literally had not looked at the series I’m writing for months because I’d been so busy and driven that I didn’t have the focus for that kind of creativity. I’m getting back on a project with some friends that I started in December. I can take more work from my newest gig and not feel like it’s the biggest crunch of my life to get it done.
In a word, it’s nice. Nice to feel like all the buildup got me somewhere. And even nicer to be moving forward from that somewhere to the next place.
To be completely cliché for a moment, it really is about the journey. The end of everything that webinar triggered is like the beginning of the next thing. It’s amazing to look forward and see things spreading out before me. Not that they weren’t before, but it was tough to see past the class. It was a dividing line. There was the before, and now there is the after. But also, it’s all part of the same thing.
And so, I will cut this post off a bit on the shorter side. But I hope it lets you realize that there is always a path forward, which is also one of the points I made during my class last week. Things that feel huge will pass, and it’s up to us to move forward afterwards.
So, see you in the future.
👋 Fair travels,
Mary
