This privacy policy applies to all information collected through our website (kitnkabookle.com), and/or any related Services, sales, marketing or events (collectively referred to as “Services”).

Personal Information
1. What is it, and what do we collect?
“Personal information” is defined as any information that could be used to identify an individual. We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide when expressing interest in our website and its Services (such as subscribing to our newsletter), when participating in activities on our website (such as commenting on posts and entering giveaways), and when you otherwise contact us directly via email or contact form. This information may include name, address, contact information, and payment information.
Comments. When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Cookies. If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. We collect information about visitors who comment on Sites that use our Akismet Anti-spam service. 4. Do we keep your information?

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

We have implemented appropriate technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of your personal information. However, we cannot guarantee that the internet itself is completely secure. We will do our best to protect your personal information. California ResidentsCalifornia Civil Code Section 1798.83, also known as the “Shine The Light” law, permits our users who are California residents to request and obtain from us, once a year and free of charge, information about categories of personal information (if any) we disclosed to third parties for direct marketing purposes and the names and addresses of all third parties with which we shared personal information in the immediately preceding calendar year. Do-Not-Track (DNT) Controls and CookiesMost web browsers and some mobile operating systems and mobile applications include a Do-Not-Track (“DNT”) feature or setting you can activate to signal your privacy preference not to have data about your online browsing activities monitored and collected. No uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized. As such, we do not currently respond to DNT browser signals or any other mechanism that automatically communicates your choice not to be tracked online. If a standard for online tracking is adopted that we must follow in the future, we will inform you about that practice in a revised version of this privacy policy.
We collect cookie identifiers, or others such as ones used for analytics and marketing, and other similar data. Most Web browsers are set to accept cookies by default. If you prefer, you can choose to set your browser to remove and reject cookies. If you choose to remove or reject cookies, this could affect certain features of our Services.
Updating Your Information

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
7. How does the newsletter/blog use my data?
If you have subscribed to our newsletter or if you are a member of our website (you can log in) or if you have purchased on our website, there is a good chance you will receive emails from us. We use Kit (formerly ConvertKit) as our email service provider. When you subscribe to our newsletter or download a lead magnet, the information you provide—such as your email address—is collected and stored in our Kit account.
We use this data to deliver the requested newsletters, updates, or promotional materials. Kit also collects information about your interactions with our emails (e.g., opens and clicks) to help us improve our content and deliver more relevant information to you. We will only send you emails which you have signed up to receive, or which pertain to the services we provided to you.
To send you emails, we use the email address you provide us. Our site also logs the IP address you used when you signed up for the service to prevent abuse of the system.
Your personal information is transferred to and processed by Kit in the United States. Kit complies with applicable data protection laws, including GDPR-approved Standard Contractual Clauses, to ensure your data is protected. We do not sell, rent, or lease your personal information to third parties. Kit may use sub-processors to assist in providing their services (e.g., hosting, email delivery), but these providers are prohibited from using your data for their own marketing purposes.

When visitors or users submit a form, we capture the IP Address for spam protection. We also capture the email address and might capture other personal data included in the Form fields.

9. Will this policy be updated?
We may update our privacy policy from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by an updated “Revised” date and the updated version will be effective immediately. AI Disclosure

The following details how Mary and Kit ‘n Kabookle Literary, LLC use AI.
Full Disclosure: Mary is legally blind and maintains the Kit ‘n Kabookle website mostly independently. Tasks labeled as “for visual accessibility reasons” below refer to tasks for which AI is used as a visual accessibility tool to make up for lack of traditional sight.
AI Assistants: We do not integrate the Kit ‘n Kabookle website with an AI Assistant. We sometimes do use AI Assistants to perform business operation and other tasks as detailed below. We use mainstream AI Assistants and ensure material shared with these tools is not used for training purposes.
Client Work: Unless expressly requested by the client, we do not use AI on client intellectual property. This includes manuscripts and manuscript-adjacent materials (such as synopses and blurbs), exchange of ideas (such as written emails or live coaching discussions), or other communication that involves discussion or exchange of client IP. At the request of clients, we may use AI in supportive ways, such as producing AI transcripts of a live coaching chat. Any such use of AI would use mainstream systems, and we would ensure IP material was not used for training purposes or stored in AI systems. We do not use AI grammar tools or other writing programs (such as ProWritingAid) on client IP or store client intellectual property in systems that use AI, except by request of the client. We may use AI on tasks surrounding client relationships, such as scheduling. Further AI policies for relationships between us and clients are managed by individual work agreements.
Website Written Content: With the exception of specific cases as outlined below, all written content on the Kit ‘n Kabookle website was produced without the use of AI. This includes the written contents of blog posts (except for random content generated for the newsletter as described below), all pages except the Privacy Policy (detailed below), and downloadable materials. We sometimes do use AI Assistants as a topic-generation tool, but content based on such generated topics is fully human-produced. In the case of this Privacy Policy page, the privacy policy was largely auto-generated by tools that may have used AI, but all content was reviewed and altered by a human before being posted to the website. AI was used to refine the AI disclosures found on this page and in the footer of the website, but the disclosure contents were originally produced and later reviewed/rewritten by a human.
Newsletter Written Content: With the exception of specific cases as outlined below, all written content for the Troll Talk newsletter is produced without the use of AI. AI was used to generate and is used to maintain a separate, specific list of possible Troll Talk topics in order to avoid personal bias in the topic-selection process (such as avoiding less desirable topics). Specifically in the newsletter issues themselves (which are initially emailed to subscribers and later posted as blog posts on the Kit ‘n Kabookle website as indicated in the previous section), we sometimes use AI to randomly generate the contents of included writing exercises to avoid personal bias (such as genre preferences) or to avoid accidentally generating content that is too polished to work for educational/exercise purposes. All such generated content is reviewed by a human before being sent to subscribers or published on the website.
Images: We make every good-faith attempt to source images that were created without the use of AI. Images created by us were not created or modified using AI. When sourcing images from third-party sites, we select only images that are not flagged as having been made by or modified by AI. In doing so, we trust that this information is accurate. For visual accessibility reasons, we use AI to describe images on such third-party websites.
Meta Content: For visual accessibility reasons, we use AI to write alt text for images displayed on the Kit ‘n Kabookle website. All alt text is reviewed by a human before being published to the website. We do not use AI to write other meta content, such as blog post titles or descriptions. We sometimes do use AI to help gauge effectiveness of such meta content for SEO purposes by asking targeted questions about use of SEO keywords in human-generated text or by sharing links to site pages with an AI Assistant.
Business Operations: For visual accessibility reasons, we sometimes use AI to check accessibility and layout of website content to help improve user experience by sharing website links with AI Assistants. We do not use AI in initial layout or development of site structure. We sometimes do use AI to help source correct code (such as html and css) to ensure Kit ‘n Kabookle renders correctly for user experience. Any such code is reviewed by a human before being applied to the website.
Other Content Policies: We make every good-faith attempt to otherwise prohibit the use of AI in tasks related to content generation for Kit ‘n Kabookle Literary, LLC and the Kit ‘n Kabookle website and extensions of its presence (such as social media). We may use AI for SEO purposes across the Kit ‘n Kabookle presence in the ways stated above for meta content.
Other Business Operation Policies: We make every good-faith attempt to otherwise prohibit the use of AI in tasks related to business operations. We may use AI in third-party functionality (such as plugins) to maintain business operations and user experience. All such third-party functionality is reviewed by a human before being applied to the website.
