On the Predictably Uncooperative Nature of Time

an hour glass showing the swift passage of time

On this fine Tuesday, I would like to propose a new rule of the universe.

The Law of Uncooperative Time: Time will, without fail, pass more quickly when you are just trying to get something done so you can get to the thing you want to spend time on.

Case in point, I swear it should not have taken as long to submit a job application this morning as it did.

Yet, it did.

😮‍💨

I got up early this morning because, yesterday, I finished the rough draft of a short story I’m going to submit to an anthology, and I intended to get right down to revising.

When I saw an interesting job in my alerts, though, I thought “I’ll just take a few minutes to do this.”

Should have known better, I suppose.

An hour or so later, I’m getting to the blog post I wanted to write before I knuckled down to the short story (which was supposed to be the subject of the blog post).

So perhaps I’ll write about the short story next week. For now, I’ll say it’s a lot of fun, and I’m pumped about revisions. It’s so nice to feel creatively motivated.

And because I really want to get to it, I’m going to cut this short to go do just that.

I hope you don’t have issues with the Law of Uncooperative Time today. (But if you do, remember—I only named it. It’s not my fault it exists.)

👋 Fair travels,

Mary

P.S. A big thanks to fernandozhiminaicela from Pixabay for the image.

P.P.S. To quickly follow up on last week’s post, I finished reposting all my old book reviews to the blog. I also discovered that deleting one’s old Blogger blog means the link does, in fact, disappear. Ah well.
